Jermain Defoe came to Tottenham’s rescue against Stevenage on Wednesday night, with the Premier League side recording a 3-1 victory at White Hart Lane in the FA Cup.
The League One visitors took a shock lead after only four minutes when Joel Byrom converted a penalty, however a Defoe strike levelled things up before the break.
Emmanuel Adebayor slotted home a penalty after 55 minutes to give the hosts the advantage, and Defoe wrapped up the win with his second on 75 minutes.
Harry Redknapp was pleased with the victory, but left to rue injuries picked up by Michael Dawson and Aaron Lennon.
“It was a difficult game, just what I expected. People said ‘you’ll smash them, beat them five or six’. Not a chance,” he told ESPN.
“It was a difficult game, but we came through okay in the end. The lads showed good character to come back from 1-0 down.
“Unfortunately we picked up a couple of nasty injuries tonight. Michael Dawson looks like he has got a really bad injury, which is a massive blow for Michael and everybody.
“We are not sure exactly what it is, but it is a bad one. It is a nasty injury. It’s long-term, for sure.
“Lennon tweaked his hamstring a little bit again. Every time he plays he seems to do his hamstring.
“We have just got to look at that and see what we can do to strengthen his hamstrings,” the manager concluded.
Tottenham will now face Bolton at White Hart Lane in the fifth round.
