The departure of Mauricio Pochettino favourite Danny Rose could open the door for Marc Cucurella to replace him after the former was linked to a permanent move to Newcastle United.
According to the Northern Echo, a permanent move for the Englishman ‘makes sense’ in the eyes of Steve Bruce, and Spurs manager Jose Mourinho hinted he does not see Rose as a ‘major’ part of his future plans in the same article.
The 29-year old is currently valued at £18 million and has made six appearances for the Magpies so far in all competitions, according to report, he’s paid £60k-per-week, though that will not be a problem for the Toon Army.
Rose made 150 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham under Pochettino and provided a relatively impressive 21 assists from full-back during that time, according to Transfermarkt. In an exclusive interview with The Evening Standard (via Football.London), the left-back reveals how ‘Poch’ has always stuck by him and that he will not move until the Argentinian stops giving him advice and added that he has a ‘good relationship’ with his former coach.
So, the fact he was reported to have had a bust-up with the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ earlier this season, as well as the fact, Mourinho now apparently wants him out, would suggest quite a fall from grace.
If Rose does depart, this could pave the way for Cucurella to replace him. According to La Razon, the north London club are interested in the Getafe man, who is currently on loan from Barcelona. Indeed, he has four assists and creates five big chances and makes 1.5 key passes on average per La Liga match this campaign (via Sofascore), highlighting his attacking qualities.
The 21-year old could prove to be a long-term replacement given he is much younger and also averages better numbers in almost every attacking metric (via WhoScored) than Rose did during his games for Spurs this season.
