A clear ambition of Aston Villa’s in the summer transfer market is to sign a new goalkeeper.
They were first linked with a switch for Neil Etheridge, a goalkeeper they had a bid rejected for before The Sun claimed they were lining up a £20m swoop for Jack Butland.
However, John Cross now suggests that Tom Heaton is a target, revealing in The Mirror’s live transfer blog on 19 June (16:37) that they are interested in the stopper.
It was speculation that caused quite the debate on Twitter as Villa supporters were incredibly divided over whether they wanted to sign him.
Some fans viewed it as a positive with one commenting that it was good news and they needed to get it done as soon as possible.
Another focused on Jed Steer, hinting that an international level ‘keeper like Heaton would be a good replacement for the current Villa stopper.
But a further individual wanted Steer to get a chance rather than the 33-year-old who was also deemed too old by one tweeter.
The Burnley man featured 19 times for the Clarets last term and kept four clean sheets in the process.
Here’s the best of the reaction.
