United fell to a hugely disappointing 1-0 Europa League final loss to Tottenham on Wednesday, capping off a dreadful season for the Premier League giants. Now that they won't be playing in the Champions League next season, head coach Amorim was asked about the club's transfer plans and if he wanted to sign his old charge and Sporting CP star Gyokeres this summer.

He said, via Ojogo: "I have to speak for our fans, for the English and Manchester United fans. At this moment, I don't have to say anything to the Portuguese, only to our fans, who deserve better. As for the future, we'll see what we're going to do.
"We have two plans for the transfer market. Not being in the Champions League is tough. But we have to look at the positive side, we have more time to think, to work during the week and to be better in the Premier League."
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Amorim said he would accept being sacked by United after their final loss but insisted he won't quit the role. The Red Devils are in a difficult situation financially, and not playing in Europe next season will not help alleviate that issue. Realistically, they will have to sell some players before they can afford to buy some top targets. And make no mistake, United's fortunes are pretty dire right now, and there are no quick fixes.
